[Winnipeg]: Frederick Steele, 1889. Albumen photograph measuring 8.25 x 4.75", on a slightly larger mount, titled in the negative "Indian Pow-Wow Moosomin Assa June 17, 1889." A remarkable image of a group of Assiniboine tribespeople in Saskatchewan, Canada, with a man at left brandishing a bow and arrow and another brandishing a revolver. Photographer Frederick Steele opened a studio in Winniped in 1887, and travelled extensively in Western Canada, taking photographs of scenery in the Rocky Mountains on behalf of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Fading to image, mild foxing and soiling to image, bowing and wear to mount. Item #11068
