Photo Album Documenting the School for Crippled Children in Piqua, Ohio
Piqua, Ohio: 1922 to 1938. Black cloth, string tied photo album binding measuring 12 x 7.75", containing 111 black and white photos, cornered or laid into album. An additional 14 enlarged photos from another album are laid in, including several duplicates of photos already in the album. Titled in manuscript on the front cover verso "School for Crippled Children, Piqua, Ohio. Organized Feb 1922." A few images are captioned, and the album leaves are captioned with dates from 1922 to 1938. An album depicting children at the school from its founding in 1922 through 1938, including several African American children. The images are mainly individual or group portraits of disabled students at the school. There are also a few classroom photos. A few portraits are captioned with information on what the student went on to accomplish, i.e. a photo of one African American child is captioned "Graduated from Piqua High School and from Wilberforce." A couple of composite photos consisting of student portraits are also included, as is a brochure published in Elyria, Ohio titled "The Reason For and The A.B.C. of the International Society for Crippled Children."
