A large group photograph of the Erisophian Literary Society, the second such society founded at Baylor University, which existed between 1853 and 1932. Literary societies at Baylor filled the role that Greek letter organizations do today. An intense rivalry existed between the Erisophians ("Sophies") and Philomathesians ("Philos"), the two earliest student organizations at the university. Some wear, soiling and fading, image overall clear except for a faded section in the lower left corner. Item #13433
