Title on front cover "Almost a Life Or Saved by the Indians, a Truthful Story of Life Among Our Western Indians." A collection of stories and anecdotes about Native Americans and their medicines, published to promote the "Kickapoo Indian Remedies" sold by Healey & Bigelow, the proprietors of the Kickapoo Indian Medicine Company. The stories center around the miraculous healing properties of the "Indian Sagwa" medicine made by the Kickapoo, and are illustrated with stereotypical illustrations of Native Americans, pioneers, and colonists. At least 14 print copies in OCLC. This copy starts on page six, and is lacking the first two advertisement leaves found in the copy at UC Berkeley, however the Princeton copy is similarly lacking these leaves, suggesting that this was as issued. Small chip to upper corner of front wrapper and first leaf, crease to upper corner of text, vertical crease through booklet, mild creasing to pages, bit of foxing to pages. Item #13536
