Autograph and Photo Album Belonging to an African American Woman in Colorado

Denver, Colorado and Vicinity: 1920s. Autograph album binding measuring 6.5 x 4.75", containing 20 pasted or laid in photographs, as well as 12 pages of handwritten text. A keepsake album belonging to Mary Beckam, a young African American woman living in Colorado. According to her yearbook (found online), Beckam was a graduate of the class of 1925 at Englewood High School near Denver. The majority of the inscriptions in the album, ranging from friendly to flirtatious, are by her classmates and friends in the Denver area. The photographs, meanwhile, primarily show Mary and her friends hanging out, possibly at school. A rare record of African American life in Colorado. In very good condition. Item #13625
