Song Book of the C.J.I. Camps
New York: Central Jewish Institute, Circa 1925. 8.25 x 7", green printed wrappers with cloth reinforced spine, [102]pp. A book of Yiddish and Hebrew songs printed for attendees of Jewish summer camps founded by the Central Jewish Institute. Albert and Bertha Schoolman founded of the Institute, based in Manhattan's Upper East Side, and began establishing summer camps outside the city after World War I. These were some of the earliest summer camps for Jewish youth, intended not only to bring city kids outdoors, but also to provide them with cultural education. The book prints a diverse array of songs: religious and folk songs, Chassidic Songs, Palestinian Songs, and Arab and Yemenite Songs, as well as popular tunes and patriotic songs (i.e. America the Beautiful).
